Per day? Never heard of allowances being doled out daily. That teaches no responsibility whatsoever. You should give your child about $20 per week. They will need to make it last. More, if they do chores.

Twelve years old is a good time to start assigning choirs and paying them for it. Make a list of what needs to be done around the house that your 12 year old can do to help. Let them determine how much money they make. Maybe make a daily list and pay them so much a day when it is completed. I'd say maybe 20 a week but I would make them earn it. Help them to learn the value of a dollar by having to earn it. It will give them pride in a job well done also.

I don't think there's any sort of consensus on allowance amounts; I think it depends on the child as and individual. Rewarding a child with an allowance really depends on how much they contribute to the household. Does the child do chores? Does the child do chores when told to, or do you have to nag and follow-up on them? Is the child lazy, or does the child obediently do tasks when told to? Does the child complain when told to help out, or dilligently complete tasks with little to no complaining?

These things should be considered when determining allowance amounts for children.

i was never given an allowance...plus if at all, you would give it per week or something....so that they at least learn how to ration their money.
its not necessary, though. when i really needed money, id ask my parents. if it was for a good reason and i was convincing, they help me out. if it was just something i wanted, then id either not buy it or pay with my own money, the money i would get every once in a while and save

When I was 12, I think I got $15/week. Once that was gone, it was gone, and I'd have to do without any money until the next week. That was 18 years ago (and Canadian $$$), so I'd guess 20/week now, would be reasonable.

Don't give him an allowance per day. Give it to him per week. I think you should give him .75cent per hour he is in school. $20 a week maybe.

It is absolutely true that an illegal immigrant cannot be sent home to their own country regardless of their crimes if the British authorities are unable to find a passport. It is a fact.

per day? How about weekly... your child will learn not to impulse buy and budget...or you will be paying allowance well into his 30s

It should ONLY be based on the amount and quality of work that he does around the house, ABOVE and BEYOND just picking up after himself.
