I have the name Sequoyah, Milan, or Milani. I don't know if I like Milan more or Milani. But I'm sure one of my children's name WILL be Sequoyah.

A few generic names you may like that come from Indian American sources.

Winona (pronounced win-oh-nah) comes from a Sioux name for a first daughter.
Chaske (pronounced chah-skay) comes from a Sioux name for a first son.
Tanis (pronounced tah-niss) comes from a Cree word for daughter.
Chetan (pronounced chay-tahn) comes from the Sioux word for hawk.
Nizhoni (pronounced nee-zhoh-nee) comes from the Navajo word for beautiful.
Aponi (pronounced ah-pah-nee) comes from the Blackfoot word for butterfly.
Tyee (pronounced tie-ee) comes from the Chinook Jargon word for chief.
Lomasi (pronounced loh-mah-see) comes from the Hopi words for good flower.

That's really all I've got anyways good luck.

Use that and the others for middle names to honour your ancestors.

What you call your future child at home will be your business but unique names are hard for kids, other parents, teachers and future employers and colleagues to pronounce and may not help when your child wants to get a job in the future.

I'm all for honouring family names or ancestral names , just not as a first name if it's difficult to spell or say.

Name them just as anyone would. There is nothing special about being a part cherokee. My grandmother was 1/2 cherokee or close but we all are american southerners. No reference to indian in particular.

Sequoyah that's really nice. Hey, wasn't he the one who introduced a written alphabet? I even named my Indian Hemp plant that once.
Still use it.
