I just got home from the ER for being sick,,,I.E. no voice, congestion, vomiting. The said I have an Upper Respiratory Infection/Laryngitis. The only thing they didn't really address that worries me is will it be harmful to my baby? I would think it would since I cant really hold anything down. They prescribed me something called Z-Pac. I'm 18 weeks. I see my ob/gyn on the 31st. Do you think if I just keep plenty of fluids the baby will be okay?

yes you will be fine they wouldn't prescribe anything if the baby would be at risk. it's more harmful to not treat it than to treat it because infections can get into your blood stream if not taken care of. and the zpack goes into your system quickly you'll be able to keep things down by tomorrow if not with in 12 hours. then you'll only be on the meds for anywhere from 2 to 4 days. (depending on which z pack they prescribed) it's actually the only anti biotic i can take with out having side effects. hope you feel better soon!!

Z-pac is an antibiotic. Most tend to be ok for pregnant women. However, recent research suggests that most respitory infections are viral, not bacterial. Therefore, an antibiotic is pointless. I would call your ob/gyn office and ask. Most offices have ask-a-nurse lines or will ask your doctor so you don't have to wait until the 31st.

Sorry to state the obvious, but the ER did know you were pregnant didnt they? I am sure you are ok though

I would phone your ob/gyn anyway and check. (What's the harm in doing that?) I am sure he/she will be happy to help you and address your fears...thats what they are there for.

Don't sit and stress about it, take positive action. Your doc won't think you are silly for asking.

I've attached info about z-pac below if you are interested

Z-Pac should be okay if you told them you are pregnant. Double check with the pharmacist. Keep up on the fluids, you'll only be sick for a few days so even if you can't keep down food your body will use its reserve of fat to nurture the baby.

when i was 10 weeks pregnant i got a lung infection and took nothing for it incase i harmed the baby and it got that bad i ended up in hospital for 10 days so take whatever the doctors give you as long as they know your pregnant they take that into account and dont put your baby at an un-nessesary risks but if your worried about anything call your doctor or midwife they can advise you congrats and good luck

Didn't you ask if you could take this safely? I would research on internet before taking anything. I was sick during my pregnancy and prescribed a drug and when I went to pick it up the pharmisist told me if I were his wife he wouldnt have her take it. I suffered through the cold and ended up with two very healthy babies!

I took that when I was expecting my son, I was about 33 weeks. It wasn't a big deal, but I felt much better. Actually... my OB prescribed it

The previous, classic infant powder is very talc, it truly is on the topic of asbestos and can want to properly be linked with some kinds of cancers. infant powder has been reformulated and now includes cornstarch really, it truly is totally secure. as long as you're literally not using a field it truly is years previous (and likely nonetheless talc), you're nice.
