Having turn out time (possibly with a buddy) is the best play "thing" a horse can have.

Maybe your horse just doesnt want to play with toys. We have 8 horses at our barn from ages 4 to 23. None of them would play with a jolly ball. At one point I tried tieing up a milk jug will a small handfull of grain in it. I had it so they had to turn it upside down to get the grain out. They got the grain out and then smashed the jug flat w their teeth. We board one pony that has one of those "apple" licks tied up infront of her stall. She wont play with it unless her owner holds it still for her or someone is there to tease her with it. We've tried the big balls from wal-mart also. No luck with them. My own mare doesnt want to play with toys but loves to play with me. She will follow me around, untie things, "throw" things, and when free longing her, horse play with me.

If your looking for something to keep your horse from being bored when your not there, try something that has food with it, like the apple licks, or they have these balls that the horse rolls around and it'll drop out horse treats

Try a horse treat like PONYPOPS or LICKITS. You can hang them from trees or on your corral. They have many flavors and are safe and good for your horse.

Also try to spend more time with your horse- the best play toy your friend can have is you.

My horse doesnt like the balls to much either. I give him the black rubber bowls that I use to feed him and he has a blast with them! Digging in the ground and throwing them around! Give it a try!

Some horses are just not interested in toys...if he's happy that's all that matters! I take those kinds of horses as a gift, I don't have to spent lots of $ on toys!

well if you only have one horse, they will tend to demand more time from you. I have seen people give their horses basketballs. We never gave ours any toys, they seemed to keep each other busy. We did as someone else mentioned, give them a mineral block. Otherwise, we just made sure to talk to them and ride them as much as we could.

My horse when bored used to unlatch gates, and untie ropes then go visiting the neighbor hood, looking for an apple tree or garden to get into. When he got bored he'd wander home again.
