The thing is, it's more stressful and you have people depending on you for just about everything in regards to our company. I believe in myself and my strengths but I still feel afraid of the change and the jump. How should I do this??Please anybody that has a plan or what would you do??Oh and in regards to the money, yes there will be more money coming from that position than where I'm at.

I am going through the same thing. I am about to take a step into a higher postition. I will be a customer service rep at a printing company, which means I will be the go between for the company and the customer. We produce magazines and catalogs, and with the new position, EVERYTHING that ANYBODY needs to know in the plant comes through me first, and I will be responsible for ensuring the rest of the plant has the proper information to produce the book correctly. We aren't talking about a Kinko's here, I'm talking Cosmo and Forbes.

I was terribly nervous about the step up. Even just a tranposition of numbers on my part and typing 3,500 instead of 35,000 can cost the company thousands and thousands of dollars. I will also have to start dealing with major league customers and some travel. Right now, I only deal with a small part of the numbers that are coming through, but I always have the person doing what I'm about to do to go to for answers. I will be switching to the person that has the answers.

I guess this was all to let you know if my situation is close to yours. I'm really really nervous that I'm gonna screw up something bad and get fired. It's a huge leap in stress. Then again, it's also a jump in salary. I have the education and skills to do the job and I have made myself believe that I truely am ready for the responsiblity. I'm not going to lie and say it's not about the money, because why would I take on the extra stress for the same pay??? The salary bump is going to allow me to pay off some debt I have been strugling with and then start saving for a home and for a very healthy retirement.

Weigh the risks. Evaluate the company. Evaluate the people you will be working with and for. Are you happy and comfortable where you are now? Will the new position disrupt your life in a negative way (i.e. extensive overtime or physical/mental stress).

Nervousness can be expected, and is a sign that you know what you are stepping into. See if you can talk to someone who is currently or has previously done the position (or related one) and see if they can clue you in on any surprises you might cross.

I've been in your position before. It's hard to say what you should do without really knowing what you do and what you would be doing with your higher position. I had an opportunity to move up into an assistant manager position last year that I passed up because I did not want the added stress and I was satisfied with what I was making at the time. Anyway, I get new responsibilities every year in my current position without even asking for them. My company kind of pushes that on me. I don't complain because I do get a raise every year. I'm in no hurry to climb the corporate ladder. I like the slow steady pace I am moving at now. I just saw this question and even though I don't have great advice I just wanted to say good luck to you because I know how hard a decision like that is to make. Is there anyone you know who's already in the position they offered you who can tell you if the added stress is worth the raise? That would be my only advice. That and you should really just follow your heart and decide if the pay raise is worth it all. But remember, your company will think highly of you if you take the position. It will show them you are ready to rise to new challenges. Good luck!

Follow whats in your heart.

You said that you believe in yourself and your strengths so you know you can do the job.

It's very normal to be afraid of change and going up the corporate ladder but wouldn't you just kick yourself in the butt if you didn't give it a go?

Be true to yourself ... Put your "power suit" on and remember to treat your co workers the same way you would want to be treated -- Always with fairness.

Go get em ........ Good Luck in your new position

A promotion means more responsibility. You need to decide if you can handle that. It also usually means more hours and dedication to the company. If you figure that you can handle all of the above, I say go for it!! You must be doing something right in order for them to offer it to you!! Good job and good luck on your decision.

I think you should definitely go for it, especially if you believe you can do the job, do it well, and if you think it's something you will enjoy doing. Plus you get more money, so I think its worth it. I believe in you too...if that means anything to you ^_^

Congratulations and go for it. Most of us are afraid of change. Keeping reminding yourself of your strengths and all you are capable of. And remember that our greatest fears or worries never happen. You can do this!

If you believe in yourself then do it. Apparently someone believes in you, or you wouldn't be getting the offer of the position.

dont do it if you are just interested in the money cuz that never works out; do it because you want to and because you like the challenge. i say "do ti!" i know i would.

try it, if you dont like it, try to get your old position back and if you cant, theres plenty of other places to work. you were asked to do tihs because people feel you are fitted to be in that position. be proud of yourself. and good luck :)
