Legally, one has to be 15 to get a job other than unofficial jobs such as those you've mentioned "babysitting, mowing lawns, paper routes etc.)

In a lot of states/provinces you can't work with money (so you can't operate a cash register) unless you are at least 16 years old. It's a legal thing. So to work in a store you'd have to be a shelf stocker or something like that. Maybe you could get a job washing dishes in a restaurant or shelving books at the library. Not sure who else would hire a 13 year old. You'd have to go to places you're interested in and ask.

Minors under 14 years of age are not allowed to work except in domestic service and a few jobs like newspaper delivery. Employers of minors are subject to restrictions on the number of hours and time of the day when they can work, so it difficult to find suitable jobs for teenagers. A better option is to work on your computer/internet from home. Most of the jobs listed can also be done as summer jobs or part time jobs to earn some extra money.Check this out http://www.pcworkathome.net/jobsforminors.html

You may also look out for an option to work online to make extra cash in your spare time. I am a part time worker doing work online at home, so I would like to share a link where you can make $600-$1500 in a month working at home. The work need to be done is posting/answering a discussion and uploading any photo/image of your interest. For details visit

I will publish few more genuine site in couple of weeks, where you can earn money. You may also write to me at talkofmoney@rediffmail.com (Note: When u are planning for a home based online work, be careful because most of them are scam and ask you to pay initial money. never pay money to any such site.)

A paper route. No, you cannot get a job interning or working in a store. Infact, it's quite illegal and internships usually go to older more educated adults not children.
