First of all, when you speak, speak from the heart.
Second of all, make sure you talk about yourself, giving examples of your life to illustrate your speech. People must identify themselves with you and that's the key. They want to hear about people.

Know your subject matter. I'm not an overly confident person, but I've been told that I am an excellent speaker. I think that is because I really know what I am talking about when I lecture or present. Confidence comes with practice. Rehearse whatever you are going to present. Do it in front of a mirror or video tape yourself...I know it sounds silly...but do it! It truly helps. Practice your vocal inflection and rate of speech. When you are going to present: Dress confidently. Smile. Have a friendly demeanor. Have water available (I always get dry mouth!!).

If you have anyone who contradicts you...be gracious...not confrontational. Calm cool and collected helps make for an interesting and relaxed speaker. Speaking in front of people can be overwhelming!!

1. Confidence in your subject -- which means writing your own material, or editing to make it your own.
2. Making eye contact with individual people in the audience, and talking to each of them when you talk -- not into the air or to the back of the room.
3. Prepare, and talk from notes -- never read a presentation.
4. Practice your presentation, and revise at any point where you stumble.
