if you already are involved with the physician (paperwork already completed) and you do it over the phone, all you have to do is be able to talk. but in order to be able to fill out papers and see a new doctor, unless it's planned parenthood you must be 18 without a parent or guardian.

If it's an appointment regarding possible pregnancy..You don't need to be any certain age to attend planned parenthood. Although it would be nice if you could have the support of a parent.

You could make an appointment anytime. You are not legally responsible for the bill until after you turn 18, your parents are.

i work in a family practice. If you are being seen for anything other than GYN problems then you need your parents concent to be seen if under 18. If it is GYN (std's, pregnacy test, birth control) related then any age. And by law they cant tell your parents no matter how young you are.

Technically speaking, Lauren, they are not going to ask your age when you make the appointment. If you are covered by insurance, even if it is your parents, when you make the appointment you will need your medical record number and might be asked to verify your address and phone number.

The issue is how old do you have to be to carry medical insurance? Anybody can make an appointment, but if they have no insurance, it will be much more difficult to GET an appointment.

I would say probably 18, unless you're paying cash for the appt. Then it would be 16. Any younger and your parents are responsible for you completely.
