Has anyone read this? Why is this book not more popular! It's my all time favorite book! Are any of Smith's other YA/Adult books good?

It's a lovely book. I read it years ago, saw the fairly recent film (was not very impressed), and feel like reading it again. She also wrote "The Hundred and One Dalmations". There were some plays, too, like "Dear Octopus" - the Family is like an octopus with its tentacles.

I agree with the above respondent; J K Rowling seems to have read the same books as I did! I'm glad she's inspired people to read some of the older books. "The Little White Horse" by Elizabeth Goudge is a wonderful, magical tale.

There is not much (even on Wikipedia) about Dodie Smith, but you could try:

I have read "I Capture the Castle" as well. It is getting more attention again because J. K. Rowling has listed it as one of her favorite books (like "The Little White Horse"). I haven't read any of Smith's other books, but I would like to.

Also, they made a movie a few years ago, you should be able to rent it at your local Blockbuster or Hollywood Video.

I have read I Capture the Castle and I absolutely loved it! In fact, I think about it often..I grew up with the same kind of dog they had, was her name Helen? ( I read it several years ago). I remember being so disappointed about how it ended for the main character - I wanted more romance...

Yes, I've read it. It's wonderful! I haven't seen any of her other books around though. I have no idea why it's not one of the classics, it should be!
