mega = million giga = billion yet because of the fact a byte is = 8 bits it take 1024 bytes to = a million kilobyte 0.5 of it is 512 and because it take 1000 of one unit of degree to = a million unit of the subsequent; 512 of any unit wether kilobytes, megabytes, giga bytes, and so on. will consistently be 0.5 of the subsequent greater unit. hence 512 Megabytes = .5 gigabytes and 1024 megabytes = a million gigabyte. basicly all of it bytes, lol.

it actually is 1024

technically every 1000 units of something, the name changes.

but with computers, well, we all know how unreliable programmers are. so yes, 1024 is right, but it doesnt fit within our place value set of 10's.
