The constant change in temperature can cause stress to the fish eventually leading to disease and death. Also the water can over heat killing the fish.

The main reason that you shouldnt put a tank in direct sunlight is because of the algae growth. Algae needs the sun to grow. Same as leaving your tank light on to long. A tank light should not be on for more then 4 hours a day or it can promote the growth of free floating algae which is a big pain to get rid of!! As for it causing heat fluctuations yes I guess that could happen but honestly unless you have a really tiny tank I cannot see the sunlight raising the temperature sufficiently enought to harm the fish. I would be more worried about turning your tank green. Alot of people will say to put an algae eater in to control the green growth but they do absolutely nothing for the free floating algae that will take over your tank. Good Luck!

You can, its what mother nature does. You just have to sure its not causing heat fluctuations which will make your fish sick or kill them and you'll end up with an algae explosion. So its generally better to not do it, but I've successfully had a marine tank in front of sunny window but close to a cold air vent.

The smaller the tank the greater the heat flux. A 100 gallon tank is not going to change much.

you cant put fish in direct sin light because the sun is just like a heater and it will rise the water to an unsafe temperature (unless you have discuss because they love the warm watter). Also it makes algae grow like crazy.

you can put them in the sun, its good for them, just remember that if you have a heater to make sure your water doesn't get too hot with the sun directly on it. also, putting your tank in the sunlight is a feast for algea to grow. if you do this you may consider putting a plecostomus in your tank, but only do it if and when you get algea not before because if you don't have algea then there will be nothing for him to eat and he will die.

because the tank will have a green algae out break.

you can, but most people don't because thick algea will grow on the sides and inside the tank.

hope that helps!!
