Hi, should I send the employer a cover letter if they only say "e-mail your resume to..." or should I just briefly introduce myself? Thanks.

You should definitely accompany your resume with a cover letter, in which you should clearly state your intentions. The presence of a cover letter makes your entry as a seriously interested in the job person.

Yes , Yes , Yes !!! A cover letter is a must. Almost every company you apply for will ask for one. Research Hot jobs for a minute and just glance over the requirements. You will find at least half will ask for a resume with cover and salary requirements.

Employers want to know who you are? Your cover letter gets you the interview, your resume just tells them what you can do.

You should always send a cover letter. The only time you shouldn't is if it specifically states not to send one.

I've always written my cover letters as my own introduction to a potential employer. I try to keep it formal, and relate it to the job that I'm applying for.

When it doubt, ALWAYS send in a cover letter. There are plenty of resources on the Net to give you tips on writing a good cover letter.

That's a personal preference on the employer's part. If you decide to send one, make sure it's as short as possible, and triple check for spelling and grammar. I used to totally disregard resumes from people who had poorly written cover letters.

I do my cover letter in the body of the email, and attach my resume. That way they can open the attachement and have a clean copy of my resume, but the body of the email tells them what job I am responding to and how my skill sets make me a good fit for the job! Hope you get the job : )

use the email as a cover letter to introduce yourself and summarize your qualifications. Then refer the reader to the attached resume file.

No cover letter, they will probably get a ton and just browse through them, they are probably looking for experience and have a low level person screening them. Unless it really stands out and is unique (taking a chance can be good, but its a bet). I would just mention a couple quick points on your e-mail. Something to make them want to read yours, but not a book.

Charm them at the meeting or when they call.
