My dr. wont do my 3d ultrasound until I am 28 weeks. He said it is because the baby only has 1% body fat and many soon to be mothers get scared. I found a spa just for pregnant women that will do them and I am getting it done on thursday. Has anyone else gotten one done at 18 weeks and could you see if you were having a boy or a girl?

I have already had the 2 d ultrasound and the afp test and my dr. says everything looks great, we just couldnt see the gender because the baby wouldnt move his/her legs. thanks for all of your answers and concerns though!!!

I had a 3D ultrasound at 12 weeks and at 20 weeks. They are amazing!! Go to a website called pregnancy.org and click on the fetal development, its down the left hand side of the screen that has 3D pics at all weeks of development.

there is a reason why your doctor wont do it until 28 weeks--
1. ultrasounds arent good for baby-- especially 3d or 4d ones
that is why only only get one or 2 throughout pregnancy
2. you wont be able to tell gender for sure until 20+ weeks
3. seeing baby in 3d now--will probably creep you out.
the best time to do a 3 or 4d u/s is between 25 & 28/29 weeks--that is when you will get the best view of baby and what he or she will look like when it's born--if you go after 29 weeks, baby is too 'squashed' in there and pressed up agains the placenta to see him or her clearly.
I really hope you dont go against your doctors wishes.

my dr said the same thing. but im going to another place that specializes in 4d ultrasound(non diagnostic) just so can find out what it finally is. Ill be 18w2d on feb 14th, thats when Im getting mine done. I hope you find out what you are having. Let me know!

listen to your doctor. What if the ultrasound show something is wrong because not enough body weigh. Ten weeks go buy fast, unless you think something is wrong

Ultrasound is a medical diagnostic procedure, not entertainment. Listen to your doctor.
