I'm researching a person for my AP history class and my African American studies class. I don't know who to do. I thought about W.E.B. DuBois, Ida B. Wells.

But then, everybody will do DuBois. Try going with people who won't be researched by your entire class. Does it specifically have to be a civil rights leader, or can it be a musician, actor, writer, dancer or so forth? If your teacher approves it, maybe try underlooked writers like Chester Himes and Nikki Giovanni, entertainers like the Nicholas Brothers or musicians like Howlin' Wolf or Bessie Smith. They could be fun to research, and not everybody and their brother will be covering them already. Here's a start with the Nicholas Brothers (not that any reputable teacher will allow students to cite Wikipedia as a source, but that's how it goes) :

If you really want to research somebody that everyone else will be covering, though, there's always Sojourner Truth or Richard Wright.
