Well, if it's a dirt bike, it'll need gas. Sorry, that's life, bud.

In motocross, bikes are tuned so that they will stall at idle.(2-strokes)
However I don’t think you are in pro MX or you would not ask.
I will assume you played with the idle also.

So..this could be many things. Based on what I know, which is little, I would start with replacing the reeds; even if they look good. The reeds control the fuel flow and are very important to making the bike run a peek performance.

If it is not the reeds well, now you have brand new reeds and you know its not that ;-)

Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.
Simple answer - turn up the idle
Some Kawasaki dirt bikes had no idle screw and had to be constantly reved, to keep from stalling.
Depending on what bike you have, it may be the same situation.

It may be a safety thing like dead man throttle.

Take it to a mechanic throttle needs just cleaning and re adjusted.

You may brush off all the dirt around the mechanism and see what happens. If you do not change the original setting then you may not need to readjust it even.

If this does not do it, next clean carburator, and then whole works tune up.....

check the idle screw adjust'mt on carb.
also if machine has been sitting idle for extended period (winter)without fuel shut off and carb drained there may be a "varnish"buildup in the jets,I've had good luck slowly pouring boiling water over carb,2 to 4 qts, using a funnel to reach it.
CAREFUL don't burn yourself!!!

well a little info about the bike would be helpful, i know some big thumpers will do that right once you kick them, but after your warmed up no problem.

Also make sure its not because you have a low idle or improper jetting (ie. to rich, to lean)

first adjust idle, if that doesnt fix you might have to clean your carb out. Also make sure you are not using old gas. You also might need to see if your spark plug is firing properly.

It means the idle cellinoid is busted but if it is older than a 1995 than you need to change the transmission.
