Four to 6 weeks is the common length of recovery time regarding tubal ligations. However, if the ligation occured after birth the normal 6 weeks period holds effect. As for needing a condom, no you would not need one. The chances of you getting pregnant after a tubal ligation are less than 1 percent and that 1 percent is usually in women several years past their ligations that have had time for the scar tissue to grow out and clear an opening. That is how some of the miracle births for women in their 40's occur. I had a tubal ligation and reversal, although shortly afterwards we decided not to have another baby due to I am diabetic and my son was diagnosed with autism.

What did your doctor recommend? Cauterization of the tubes is pretty much instant sterilization, but, you should give yourself time to heal.

If he had had a vasectomy you could have his semen tested but with having your tubes tied, there is no way to test the status of your fertility.
