Yes, it genuinely is.

My Dad told me yesterday "tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life", for a good reason.

I was seriously ill for over 10 years, and I recovered 3 years ago. But I struggled to come to terms with the changes the recovery brought, until last night.

Dad told me to think "Thank God that's over", put it in the past, and start the rest of my life today. It has worked. I've been so thankful I had to cry, and life is starting afresh as of today!

Thanks for asking that question. X

No. Yesterday was the first day of the rest of my life and today is the second.
I am not sure why we regard the changing of one day to the next as being significant. Life is continuous and doesn't stop at the end of this day and wait to start up at the beginning of the next. Still, a catchy song anyway.

We all carry our past with us - time is a measurement of movement/change. As we are in a continual process of change - as a result of movement, we embody the effect that 'time' has made upon us. We can never leave it all behind and 'move on' - our personal history is a part of what we have irrevocably become. Whether that is good or bad for our well-being is another matter. The expression you quote is well known and not bad in itself - suggesting that we should not dwell on old themes but look afresh at each day and make the most of what time we have before us. But it does not imply that we should negate our past. Sometimes we do need to relive it in order to make sense of what we have become.

In the physical sense yes, in the emotional sense we all have ties to our past. Our past has an influence on the present, like it or not. We often are somewhat products of our own environment. To rise above and grasp understanding can some times be difficult. There are circumstances from the past that are hard to let go, and maybe you never totally leave it all behind.

today I'm stuck in the past.
as I look out the window and can only see pouring rain and howling winds it seems like the best place to be at the moment. maybe tomorrow will be the first day of the rest of my life.
it's happened before!

Today is the first day of the rest of your life but the rest of your life is influenced by all your yesterdays.

Every day is the first day of the rest of my life. There is nothing to gain by looking back, but the future still holds immense challenges and joys

Yes, "today" is always the first day of the rest of my life.

As tomorrow never comes, today is the only day of your life.
We can't live in the past, we can only look back and try and use the experiences we had to make today better.

As a matter of fact, I am trying to turn over a new leaf. Trying to be more attentive to my wife, faith and work. I'm looking forward to the new premises at my work opening up, it should offer greater capacity for improved work ethic. I'm expanding into different areas in my faith. And I'm looking to love my wife even more than I do with everything I have and everything I am. Looking forward to tomorrow. Cheers.
