I think, you meant "break" down. Some because people who were compatible initially grow apart; others because people had no business being together to begin with.

there are several reasons why some marriages break down, and one of the most common is that the couple started their relationship without a honest commitment to making their marriage work, and all they have done is allow it to fall into disrepair.
Arrogance plays a part in this, and it usually rears its head coming from fear.
Many couples both hold on to resenments which are usually their own expectaions which are resenments under construction.
This pattern of resentments usually comes from childhood i.e throwing the rattle out of the pram, tantrums, a mother and father who have not been emotionally available to encourage emotional release.
When children grow up with thius loneliness, and abandonment their adult life becomes twisted, and they dont appreciate the desire to live in the solution, and learn to love.
greed, lust, alcoholism, all play a part as well.

i hope this has helped a bit.

There's too many probable causes, but i guess the biggest one has got to be the lack of communication between partners.
Too many people get married too quick. They think after a few months of being engaged, they're ready for marriage.
Interfering families are a big problem with marriages, namely the mother-in-law.
There's too much taking, and not enough giving. The balance is no longer equal, and there's very little or no trust.

In my own observation most marriages break up in some other reasons:

For example financial problems, no time for each other, they're busy with work outside the home etc.

Lack of communication, no trust, no love and no respect to one another. Also being selfish. To controlling with spouse or to jealous. No compromise and not compatible to with each other.

Lack of spontaneity. Lack of affection. Letting the labito dwindle down. Lack of trust. One or the other not getting what they want or need. Not having a good foundation to start with. Getting married for the wrong reasons. Cheating. I could go on and on.

Lack of communication. Loss of respect. The couple stops trying. They forget why they fell in love. They let every day stresses and activities overwhelm them until one day they wake up and don't know the person next to them. They forget to say "I love you" and be playful like they were when they were younger.

Sometimes two people just grow up and apart. Especially if they marry young. When two people that marry very young finally mature, they find they are two very different people.

finances. a marriage has to be emotionally and financially secure to survive. it takes some maturity to say, "we don't need to buy that". instead of lot of couples give in and buy things on a whim. trust is an issue too. which goes back to emotionally secure. let's face it, people are jumping into a commitment without seeing the big picture, what to really expect out of a marriage.

B/c the couple gives up. They just don't put the effort into the marriage like they did before they got married.

Sometimes the participants aren't they type to be married in the first place. Sometimes as they get older (mature) they change a bit and their wants and needs change as well. Sometimes it's because of cheating spouses, sometimes it's over finances, sometimes it's because one wanted children and the other didn't. Sometimes it has to do with the extended family...There are just as many reasons as there are couples who are married.
