Here is an extremely simplified answer.

Bombing German industrial centers with air raids helped a lot by limiting their indutrial capabilities.(Although this was a tragically sloppy affair.) Air supremacy, achieved later in the war, gave allied ground troops vital support from the air while denying such support from German ground forces.

In the east the Russian merely overwhelmed the Germans with sheer numbers of men and tanks. In the west, the allies were able to slowly push the Germans back, despite several German successes. Eventually the two front war reduced Germany's man power to the point where they couldn't create a strong defense.

Basically, it was because the allies manage to destroy the German Luftwaffe (Air force) mainly their fighter defence force capabilities. Leaving the way for the allied bombers to destroy their industries that were capable of manufacturing arms and ordinance, in order to continue waging war. In the latter parts of late 1944 early 1945 Germany was on it's knees with home production almost Nil! No power or water, sewerage and food shortages. A great part of the cause was the battle with Russia in the east, as the Russians advanced towards Germany, it bled the German forces of equipment, the great tank battle round Kusk saw the destruction of thousands of tanks on both sides! It was said to be the biggest tank battle the world had ever seen! And one of the turning points in the war from which Germany never recovered.

I hope the person who posted first goes back to history class, the Germans surrendered before they dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. Besides the factors involved with the lack of war supplies, of all types..lack of men,vehicles..etc.coupled with the war being fought ( I am talking about the Axis ) on several fronts. Became to much for them to with stand..When you cannot even move what little is left with to fight,to the battle field, because of allied air power blowing it up,continued aggression is pointless. Hitlers generals knew this, and is why they tried to kill him. This in general why the allies beat the Germans in Europe
