Your doctor can give you a safe prescription for a stool softner.

Also, drink extra water and eats lots of fiber reach foods.

Another tip is to try some prune juice - it's ghastly and you can't have too much otherwise the baby is also going to have a runny tummy as well if you are breastfeeding.

The doctor should have given you some stool softeners but you can get some at the pharmacy just ask the pharmacists. Naturals things would be eat lots of fiber. Prunes or Prune juice. Or you can go to a helath food store or GNC and get some flax seed . Or just buy some OTC meds.

I went and still am going through the same thing, I breast feed my baby so that is a good reason, the doctors gave me some red pills that didn't help. I drink water and prune juice and take mineral oil about 3 times a week that helps a lot.

I used colace. Ate prunes. If all else fails suppositorys. They work its a sure thing. After my baby I didn't have that problem the hospital gave me senok when I was there 4 three days. Maybe try eating taco bell or kfc it might help.Eat more fiber like cheerios or oatmeal.

While I was still in the hospital having by daughter, they gave me colace. I would suggest talking to your doctor or OB if you are breastfeeding. Anything you take needs to be OK for baby. Otherwise, I would suggest eating some fresh prunes or drink some prune juice.

Hope you feel better soon and congrats on the new baby! ;)

I too suggest a doctor visit but if you are unwilling to do that, I would suggest suppositories just as someone else did. If not, give yourself an enema and wait at least 5 minutes before going, you're REALLY going to want to try after you do it, but you have to wait to allow the solution to break up your stool. You can also try drinking a bit of mineral oil, it is odorless and tasteless, you can pick it up at your local store and it is also used for softening your stool.

I used infant strength glycerin suppositories and man do they work! They are also safe as very little gets absorbed into the bloodstream. Also they can not cause dehydration.

Other options (if you are breastfeeding)

I had the same problem. Try taking milk of magnesia it tastes terrible but it should do the trick. they told me to take 2 TBS and i should have a bm in the morning but that didn't work, i did it for 2 days and said heck with it and took 4 TBS and it worked. My bm was like water but hey i was haveing a bm so i didn't care. after a day everything was back to normal. goodluck!

Stool softeners. NOT laxatives. Be sure to get the plain stool softeners. They look like little footballs. I was on them routinely for a while after the baby was born.
