so with that being said can anyone confirm or deny that?...i bought a TIVO dual channel box at best buy for 79.00 after large rebate and havent opened it yet cuz a friend said that in 6 months i wouldnt be able to use it with my DirectV service.....if so that SUCKS and so does the Directv DVR...

Last year Direct TV extended their support contract with TIVO through 2010. Even though they wont sell the tivos, they will continue to support them for 3 more years...
hopefully by then they will get their units working...

All you have to do is upgrade your current receiver with a R10 directv receiver. It is a DVR with integrated TIVO. So you get both in one unit. Plus you don't have to pay the TIVO service. All you pay is an extra $5 a month to directv. Look it up at weaknees.com

I don't know how DirectTV would prevent people from using Tivos even if they wanted to. Doesn't a Tivo communicate with the DirectTV box using IR? In that case the DirectTV box wouldn't be able to tell if the Tivo or a person with a remote was changing the channel.
