The dew point or dewpoint of a given parcel of air is the temperature to which the parcel must be cooled, at constant barometric pressure, for the water vapor component to condense into water, called dew. When the dew point temperature falls below freezing it is called the frost point.

As has been pointed out, the dewpoint is when the rate of evaporation of water droplets to water vapour is equal to the rate of condensation of water vapour to water droplets. At this temperature you have 100% relative humidity and the air is said to be saturated and has the saturation vapour pressure.

If the temperaure falls below the dewpoint, the water droplets that condense out of the air may form dew but far more frequently they form cloud or fog.

as the temperature cools off at night, it is the temperature at which the water will start to precipitate out of the air (that is how you get morning dew)
