when the BCS started and it wasn't included as one the "big ones". It is still one of the bigger bowls outside the BCS. Although the biggest Non-BCS game is the Capital One Bowl. You have to remember that the Cotton Bowl selects second amongst non-BCS bowls for teams from the SEC, which means it gets, at best, the 3rd best team from the SEC and usually the 4th.

The Cotton Bowl BEGAN to lose it's prominence when the Southwest Conference disolved...You can point to the day that happened as the day the Cotton Bowl began to decline!

Like askarefer said, It was the demise of the old SWC that started a decline in Cotton Bowl prominence.

Seems like every major corporation has cashed in on the bowl sponsorship game, and the advertisement sales that go along with the television rights to air the game. There's so many of them out there.....who cares anymore??
