If you are looking for "newer" games, the "next generation" of games, that have been coming out for the past year, then go with the XBox360. The 360 has more choices, since it has been around for longer period of time -- like a year head start.

However, it isn't simply the number of choices that determines the winner -- though that plays a very significant role as it shows game developer interests. The more developers, the more likely that a game that you might like gets created.

The better choice is the console that has the most games that YOU like today. A long list of lousy and dull games does you no good. The important thing is what do they offer today (or the near future) that appeals to you.

If you are unsure as to what games you might like, then go back to the default answer -- which is, which console has the most choices for next generation games and that would be the XBox360.

For online game play experience of "next generation" games, the 360 wins hands down. This is because the PS3 is so new that not many people have it; much less have the opportunity to play the games you might like.

If you are looking to play the 'older' games (e.g. playstation 2, original xbox), then you might have better luck with the Playstation 3. Microsoft went all out and made it a requirement that the game must be on the official list for the original xbox game to play on the 360. I find that annoying. I'd rather pop in the game and see if the bugs I might find are tolerable; rather than not play it at all. I couldn't play my friend's Justice League Heroes for that very reason -- it isn't on the list.

You can always check Microsoft's list ( http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm ) or check of the compatibility status of playstation games ( http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus ) to see if the games that you like are on the list. The console with the bigger list, either 360 or PS3, is the console you buy.

Of course, if you already have the old console and plan to keep it then backwards compatibility isn't a problem for you. So the choice boils down to which console offers the best selection of "next generation" games that appeals to you.

I selected the XBox360. I bought it in mid-December 2006.

If you really only care about the gameplay, then get a Wii. However, it is impossible to find one these days and the PS3 is worth way too much money. I recommend getting Nintendo Wii but since this a choice between an Xbox 360 and a PS3, I'd say get XBox 360.

PS3, because 1) after two months I haven't heard much about them over heating, but heard lots of 360's over heated in their first few months. Plus PS3's games are just as good on my old tv as they are on my friends HD tv (my friend has 360) Online is free
