I just recently got a 30 gallon and since my 10 gallon is too crowded, I moving my fish into the thirty gallon. I had 6 platies and 6 cories if anyone wants to know, there are only a few other fish with them, so its not overcrowded. Anyway, now that my 10 gallons free, I decided to get a female betta instead of a few, small tropical fish. If I can I want to get two, but I dont know if they fight or not. I know you cant keep two male bettas together, but haven't heard/read anything on females. They would have a heater and filter, plus aeration since thats what my previous fish had. My sister has a male betta, but I have never had a female betta, is there anything I should know about them? Please Help!!!!!
Thank You!!!!!! :) Also, what are some fish that would be good w/ female bettas, I dont want anymore cories!!!! Not that I dont like them, I would feel bad for them because the otheres were in a 30 gallon!!!!!

You can put as many females together as you like, so long as there is no male there. Don't mix them with other labrynith fish. Don't go bigger than 30 gallons with your bettas, they don't do well in deep water, they will drown in they can't get to the surface. Give them lots of plants and floating plants, keep the current low.

And, just FYI, you can keep males together, its just tricky. You need space, different currents and a densly planted tank. Don't try it though, its more likely to end in disaster. I've done it at home and in the pet store where I work and know other breeders who do it.

Both males and females are very good community fish so long as you don't mix them with other territorial fish or fin nippers like barbs. Bettas are not fin nippers, if they want to go after another fish, you'll see scales flying. Fin damage is secondary.

Yes females can be kept together, but I would have more then 2. They may nip at fins a little until a clear peaking order is established after that things should calm down.

Not sure on other fish really. I had some Zebra Danios with my females at one point and they did fine.

you can keep females together but sometimes one will get bullied by the others and not get to eat or one will be more agressive than the others. in both cases you want to remove the betta that is too passive or too agressive. in general you want a tank with LOTS of plants -- real or fake or both and places to hang out -- i use asian tea cups and things of that size. female bettas are still territorial and you will need to let them have lots of little places that can be their territory.

lots of people will recommend other fish with female bettas but i don't -- you can put in a school of small tetras or rasboras or danios. ghost shrimp are good. african dwarf frogs are a good choice too. a tank of just female bettas amazes most people because of the color variety in them and most people don't realize you can keep a tank of them.

You can not put more than 1 female betta in a tank unless you have at least 3. They are still semi-aggressive among themselves and are going to chase each other around so you need at least 3 to spread out aggression.

It is possible to keep female bettas together but it is wise to get more than 2. One will be dominant. i suggest getting at leats 3. 4 is better.

They will fight. they are just light males. thats pretty much why they are called simese fighting fish. i dont know what other fish you can put in with them but ive seen them in stores with smaller fish like mollies and platies and small tetras like the neon or cardnal.so if your going to put them in the same tank, get a seperater thats like a screen and you should be good to go.

Yes they can be housed together, but sometimes they do tend to nip at eachothers fins, I wouldn't recommend putting other fish in with them since they are after all still fighting fish. I have two in a 10 gallon with a couple of african dwarf frogs.

If you put two females and NO male, then it's okay because they have no reason to show dominance. If it was two males, there would be lots of aggression for dominance, and a result of one dead...
