It could have been easily avoided under Clinton, but there was absolutely nothing Bush could have done to stop it.

It could have been avoided if President Bill Clinton had gone after Bin Ladin when he was handed to him on a silver platter in the 1990's. The USA has always historically been to all of the other countries in the world a great friend and ally helping to liberate them from tyrannical governments and helping them fight for freedom. How soon the world has forgotten all of the help the United States has given throughout the last century. If it were not for the US France would be part of Germany, and yet they are the biggest ingrate of all. The only reason you say the US has too many enemies is because you feed into the anti Bush, anti America, media, and not because you are smart and study the true history to be well enough informed to make such a judgment.

I believe it was inevitable given the situation in the intelligence and law enforcement communities of the time. How do people that are on the CIA's watch list get visas from another branch of the government to go to flight schools? Simple, the CIA and the State Department were not sharing that type of information because they couldn't legally share that information. The right hand of the government couldn't tell the left hand of the government what was happening. This lack of sharing of information and communication between departments is what opened the window for 9/11 to occur. The main reason that this type of information wasn't being shared is privacy, which believe we all have a right to.

In a free democracy there is no such thing as complete security.

it's hard to avoid something you don't see coming...

if we would have seen it coming, could we have avoided it... maybe... but I think if you asked Americans on Sept. 10 would terrorists fly planes into the towers and kill thousands... most Americans would have probably said "eh, I don't see it happening."

and it's hard to avoid something that most people aren't concerned about...

I mean... the government could have spent more money on "anti-terror rules"... but if Americans didn't think it would happen, they would probably get mad that the government was spending tax dollars on something that they didn't see as a threat...

hindsight is always 20/20... unfortunately...

Yes, it definitely could have, if Clinton had taken one of the 5 chances he had to kill Bin Laden, and had instead of gutting the military gone into the middle east and done a little more than drop 2 bombs. Plus if he had also retalliated against the 4 attacks on the U.S, -(U.S.S Cole, 2 U.S embassies in Africa, and the original attack on the world trade center)
But yet clinton was too busy playing golf to realize what wa going on.

We have so much freedom in this country that we will never be able to avoid ALL terrorist attacks.
But we must try.
I will take more to stop terrorists than just giving them a Big Democrat Group Hug.

If someone had stopped Bill and Hillary before they arranged for the planes to carry out their mission of killing Americans then it could have been avoided!!

If Clinton would have done his job, we could have had Osama Bin Laden a long time ago and probably avoided this whole thing!

Had Clinton taken advantage of grabbing Bin Laden one of the times he was offered him, or had he given the green light to assassinate Bin Laden the times they had the opportunity it most likely would not have happened.

However, an unwillingness to act without worrying about what will be said about him made Clinton an ineffectual leader. He was busy protecting his legacy instead of protecting his country.
