My baby has pooped white, strange looking and HORRIBLE smelling poop twice today. He has also been throwing up- once was clear, second time was all formula (not breast feeding for honest-to-God medical issues- let's not even go there) about 15 minutes after he ate. No fever- he's acting normal. Oh- and he's five months old. And yes- I have called the pediatrician, but we had a "snowstorm" and I left a message with the answering service and am waiting on a call back from the doc. Thank you and have a great day!

I looked this up on the web and found this site which has some info on it.

I was watching Oprah 2 days ago and the Doctor she always has on was talking about poop. He said white poop usually means the liver isn't making bile (as some of the other answerers have said), which turns the poop brown colored. So like the others said you REALLY need to call the ER or the pediatric unit and speak to a nurse if you can't get a hold of your pediatrician. This is very, very important. Best wishes.

White poop in an adults means there is no bile(which is what makes poop brown) and that is not a good thing. I would guess that it would mean the same for babies as well. I would call the ER and talk to one of the nurses and see if he needs to come in right away or can it wait.

I haven't heard of this so I'm glad you called your pediatrician. I would also check some of the baby sites-- babycenter is a good one-- online and see what you can find. Trust your gut-- if you need to, go to the ER or an urgent care center. Or even try calling the ob unit where you gave birth-- the nurses can be very helpful even beyond those first few days!

Many new babies are lactose intolerent. If you have switched babies formula or started him on a food substance then this could be the problem .

If neither of these things has occured then you are doing the right thing by trying to get a hold of the doctor. Watch over baby and if other symptoms pop up besides these make note.

Good Luck

Not to scare you, but I work in a hospital, and usually white poop means hepititis of some kind. So obviously it may have something to do with the liver. Call your doctor.

Ummmm white poop sounds like the food isn't being digested AT ALL.

Can you call a public health nurse or the ER or something?

Chalky white is bad. Like someone else said it can mean that the liver is not producing bile.
Your doctor will probably want you to bring the baby to his office or to the ER.

Don't know to much about what color baby's poop is suppose to be but take that baby to ped. as so as possible. In the mean time get on your knees and pray God will hear you just believe and no doubting
