circumference= (pi)* diameter, for a circle. Pi is an irrational number whose value cannot be written in a closed form exactly. The various approximate values used are: 22/7, 355/113, 3.14159265 etc Its value is also given by the following infinite series:
Pi = 4*( 1-1/3 + 1/5 -1/7 +1/9 ....................).
Generally we use the approximate value 3.142 or 3.14

Calculating the Circumference of a Circle

The circumference of a circle is the distance around the outside of the circle. It could be called the perimeter of the circle.

How to find the circumference of a circle:

* The circumference of a circle can be found by multiplying pi ¶ (which is equal to 3.14) by the diameter of the circle.
* If a circle has a diameter of 4, its circumference is 3.14*4=12.56
* If you know the radius, the diameter is twice as large.

3.14 is what is typically used for pi which is used in those calculations. Pi is actually derivied from taking the circumference of any circle and dividing it by the diameter. so it is not a magic number.... it is a real thing... best of luck solving your math problem
