well i am american, and i can tell you that if you think soccer is rapidly spreading through the US, you are sadly mistaken. where's the evidence of this? where's the TV contract? where are the people who watch it or care about it? the only people in america i know of that like it are right here on yahoo answers. i know literally hundreds of sports fans, and not one, i repeat not one soccer fan. so don't worry, we'll be no threat to european or south american teams, because we care no more about soccer now than we did 50 or 100 years ago.

I really think it will continue to gain popularity in the US. Yes it is very popular among youth players but it will slowly get more popular among the older crowd. Unfortunately I doubt it will take over as the most popular sport in the US because of the typical NFL/baseball/basketball fans that put down soccer. The media likes those fans and right now that is where the money is. The US will start to look to inner cities and more minorities (Latin communities) for talent rather than just the suburbs. They will become more of a threat worldwide but so is the rest of the world. Will they ever become the Brazil, Italy, France, Germany like teams? It will take more than 4 years for that to happen. Maybe in 2014 or 2018. Not in 2010.

Yes I am an American minority.

Ehhh... not any time soon no. I mean, I'm an American yeah. But I have to recognize my country's team isn't that great, only when they face Mexico. I mean, they'd be greater if they would picture all their opponents like the Mexican team.

Yeah, "soccer" is gaining popularity in the U.S. but it's mostly among Hispanics like me. But I guess pretty soon it'll become a greater sport here. However, I don't think that would make a difference in the way U.S.' national team plays. It's not like all the stars that may be moving to play in the MLS will play for the U.S. team. Hmmm... or will U.S.' "soccer" potential actually grow???

soccer is definitly not spreading rapidly here (im in the US) but among young players it is. almost everyone under the age of 12 plays/played soccer its builds teamwork or watever.
I do wish it would get better becuase it is the best sport in the world <3
but ppl here love football and basketball.. i dont think soccer will ever come even close to the super bowl though i wish it would.
and no the US team will not be a threat..they suck haha. even though beckham is coming, it'll just spread it a little proabaly and he'll probably go after hollywood anyways..
but im keepin my fingers crossed.. VIVA SOCCERR

I sure hope it didn't. And if it did, it'd be all because of David Beckham (not blaming the guy) But baseball is already spread to the world, alot of countries-like soccer-play baseball already. I never really grew up a baseball fan in japan untill I moved over here to the U.S. But I sure hope that it hasn't decreased and doubt that it ever will. Baseball is still more famous that soccer (futball) here in the U.S.

The only thing that soccer will become popular in US is when they create another World Series for Soccer. That will only include teams in the US, and the winning team will be called World Champion.

Hopefully in the future they can pose somewhat of a threat to other countries in international tournaments. It'd would be great to see that someday. I think the USA is already a fairly good team, and I think in time and with growth, they will become even better and hopefully a better force in the soccer world.

Soccer in america is a kids game. Its the most played sport for children, but we feel that the other sports we have to offer are much more exciting. Soccer won't become very popular i'm afraid.
