Red Raspberry Leaf Tea is very good for you while pregnant. It helps to tone your uterus which can make your contractions more productive when labor comes. (It DOES NOT induce labor.)

There are also "pregnancy teas" that you can buy at the health food store.

Mint tea is good if you have nausea.

If you're asking what's so special about tea, then I would say that most tea are much more than just a refreshing beverage. Some contain the highest content of various antioxidant compounds (polyphenols) that have been proven as beneficial in fighting certain cancers, to help lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure, to help prevent food allergies, to reduce the risk of flu and infections, and to reduce the effects of aging while others provide many proven health and therapeutic benefits.

Certain herbal teas can be very beneficial during pregnancy and may help to alleviate some of the symptoms of pregnancy. Many women find that small amounts of ginger tea can help with morning sickness, while peppermint tea can ease heartburn and indigestion. Slippery elm or meadowsweet tea may also aid digestion and lemongrass to relax nerves. However, it is always a good idea to drink herbal teas in moderation.

And it is important to steer clear of unfamiliar ingredients such as black cohosh, pennyroyal & mugwort, all best avoided during pregnancy.

Also look on packaging labels for contents that may normally be part of your diet (such as mint, lemon or orange extracts). All herbal preparations which are bought as tea bags from the supermarket are thought to be safe for use in pregnancy. You can also buy herbal tea blends specifically made for drinking when you are pregnant.

All the best & take care!

You are supposed to limit caffeine to 300mg/day.

Which is about 6 cups of tea (assuming you mean some normal black tea). Green tea may have more caffiene.

Average cup of instant coffee - 75 mg
Average mug of coffee - 100 mg
Average cup of brewed coffee - 100 mg
Average cup of tea - 50 mg
Regular cola drink - up to 40 mg
Regular energy drink - up to 80 mg
Normal bar of chocolate - up to 50 mg

Certain herbal teas are not safe during pregnancy (and I do not mean the ones in the grocery store that are just flavours. I mean ones that claim health benefits.) Red Raspberry Leaf tea for examply is a uterine tonic. In reasonable doses it helps keep the uterus healthy. In higher doses it will cause braxton hicks (which some women actually encourage). In extremely high doses early in pregnancy it *may* cause a miscarriage.

Take care. And remember: "Everything in moderation, including moderation"

(FYI it's "spiel" and no I don't know why it is pronounced more like shpeel)

I used to drinks lots of tea before I became pregnant but I stopped drinking it once I became pregnant because tea has so much caffeine in it which is a diuretic and dehydrates a person. Your body needs lots of fluids and water and if a woman drinks to much tea it depletes all the fluids. I still do drink teat but only on occasions.

Tea is fine to drink. I have 3 kids and they are all fine and I drank tea. Some people just say the caffeine will cause harm, but as long as you are drinking it in moderation, it is fine to have tea or a soda sometimes.

I was shocked when they told me to avoid tea during pregnancy. I asked about green tea. They said no green tea either.
