At the White House Rose Garden on November 2, 1983, U.S. President Ronald Reagan signed a bill creating a federal holiday to honor King. It was observed for the first time on January 20, 1986 and is called Martin Luther King Day. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, around the time of King's birthday. In January 17, 2000, for the first time, Martin Luther King Day was officially observed in all 50 U.S. states.[44]

chuffed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day!!!!! He lead the way for everyone to be equivalent and to be judged for the interior and in no way the coloration of our epidermis.coloration does no longer mean some thing,all it does is make you unique on your particular way. also RIP Coretta Scott King.

Yes, the fed. employees, and the rest of the working people want a 3 day weekend, so it has always been on a Monday.

Lots of U.S. holidays are set by law as being on a Monday. That way if people get the day off they get a 3-day weekend.

So it's easier for people to take the day off, instead of having it move around the week every year.
The same reason that President's Day, Thanksgiving, etc is always celebrated on the same day of the week.

guess they fixed it that way so it would be like thanksgiving which is always a thursday. it makes a good long weekend for the politicians that approved it back in the eighties. why do they do anything? to line their pockets or get something for free. they just want to be respectged and well paid.
