They used old railroad ties to make the cross. That's why it was so friggin' heavy. The "special" nails were common railroad spikes of the day. Ironwood was the wood used, which is why they had such a hard time driving those spikes in. Nobody can say with certainty if the particular tree the wood came from has descendents today. Cedars spread from Lebanon and pretty much wiped out the ironwood growing there.

In the Roman occupation of Israel it was any random tree that met spec. was cut down for executing prisoners. However in most case these trees were up hundreds of years old at this time, and therefore had 'seeded' many times before being cut down.

We must remember to the Romans Jesus was nothing special and therefore they would not have gone to any special lengths to kill him. Hope this helps.

Well that depends on your belief in the story of Jesus the bible and religion in general. If you believe, then of course in theory it would be possible.

And you care about a tree in another country - why?

Only GOD knows the answer, and if you get to heaven before I do, please send me a sign for the answer - if GOD wants me to know.

GOD bless us, always.
