Brad B .excellent answer ,but my history shows that leaders that lead by example are usually a source of great inspiration for the common man.I think that kind of leadership is reqd now to pull america together on this whole issue.Lets face it we are divided and that makes us weaker.

that was largely the problem in Veitnam.Uninspiring leadership which resulted in a split at home which detracted from a clear military goal.I see the same happenning again

They all traded respect for warmongering. I wouldn't readily sacrifice my respect.

Have you? HAve the majority of Americans? Has the liberal media? As a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom I don't think that is a requirement for having an opinion or making policy. I actually would prefer that the Commander in Chief not be personally involved. Its easier to make clear judgement without personal involvement. President Bush relaizes the cost of war, but he also can see the end result and he feels that the end will justify the means. It has not gone as smoothly as ne one would have liked, but we are doing the right thing. He asks no one who hasn;t volunteered to do anything.

ADDT'L I don;t recall that President Lincoln ever directly commanded troops and had no family serve in the war...yet he was one fo the great leaders of our history. We are pretty far removed from having our War Heroes for Presidents.
I wouldn;t exactly have wanted my Dad to be president while I was in Iraq. He would be slanted to either being way too harsh or too soft and pulled back. Most likely too harsh.
This question was posed by Sen. Boxer. Does she have a son/daughter in Iraq? I guess I need to look that up.
