I don't get the hype about her...she's not beautiful(normal-ugly looking, IMO.), she stars in the same roles over and over, and her acting chops are just mediocre.
MONA LISA SMILE WASTED 2 1/2 HRS OF MY TIME! She didn't charm my pants off in that movie, BLAH! and a few others....

She happens to chose movies that have other things going for it. Pretty Woman had Richard Gere and was basically for the post-80's hangover. The rest of her movies are semi-well-written romatic-comedies with great co-stars (America's Sweethearts with John Cusack and Billy Crystal and Catherine Zeta-Jones? Hello?). She's really just the Maerican Dream: she's got something for nothing, tons of moola, everyone knows her name, and she gets to pop out babies while in her early forties.

I'm not defending her, because I don't think she's anything all that great either...but she has actually done a lot in the industry.

Why is any actor/actress, athlete worth that? I mean, we should be paying our teacher, police, firefighters, nurses, that kind of money. Not pretty boys/girls. I mean I think they should be paid good, but give me a break. Our priorities are all screwed up. And to top it off, they begin to believe they are a God. I love watching TV and movies, sports, listening to music, etc... But I also loved getting a great education, being "rescued" in an emergency and having someone look over me when I am in the hospital, etc...you get the point. Priorities.

I think she's a good actress- has sort of a sweet, girl next-door type of look. And many- maybe most actors tend to repeat similar roles, if they have success with something, go with it again. Like Bruce Willis or Keanu Reeves have much range?

I agree she is definately overrated. She won an oscar, for playing Erin Brochovich! That role was not a stretch for her at all.
