Sure you control the rudder, but the universe controls the stream.

Destiny is predetermined. But nobody can determine it. Nobody can predict your destiny. You'd have to know everything about everyone and be able to guess every one of their moves. That is an ENORMOUS amount of information that would take an enormous amount of time to process by anyone or anything. At least now. And so, you don't know your destiny. Therefore it's not a fatalistic viewpoint.

To a point, yes. Maybe some things are meant to happen and you will understand better why as time passes. But you make choices; you pave a path of destiny. Free will allows you the options and attitude is everything. You choose how things will affect you - positive, negative, or indifferent.

Of course you have some control over your destiny! If you just 'went-with-the-flow' all the time, where would you find happiness in what you do?!

Well, there are several philosophies and aspects on the subject!
Some sects and religions even forbid to think you can go beyond your destiny!
Personally, I do not accept even the existence of Destiny! It is similar to Tyche (Luck), god, etc.

I feel that God has a sort of a roadmap for our lives:

*We hit certain waystations (i.e., marriage, children, etc.) along the way.

*We are given many opportunities to do good, or to ignore these opportunities.

*We are given many opportunities to allow others to do good, or to ignore these opportunities.

*We each choose a different path to realize what God has planned for us. It's up to us to realize that life isn't really lived unless we seek out and nurture our potential to its maximum extent:

**Physical conditioning **Intellectual development

**Mercy **Forgiveness **Joy (appreciated and shared)

**A sense of Justice, and the Courage to see it done.

I don't have even control over my wife or my destiny. They can go or come as they may please. I'm ready.
