Well, double negatives are two words that have a "negative" meaning. You're only supposed to use one negative word in a sentence that expresses a negative idea.

For example, "From our house you cannot see none of the moutains." Cannot and none are the double negatives. The sentence is supposed to read "From our house you cannot see any of the mountains."

Hope I helped. If you need more help, just email me!

A proposition can be either true or false.

The negative "flips" the truth value of a proposition. If its true it makes it false and if its false it makes it true. Like a coin being flipped - the flip turns it from "heads" to "tails"

EG "Ice is cold" is true, if you put "not" in front of it "Ice is not cold" it becomes false.

"Ice is hot" is false, if you put "not" in it becomes true "Ice is not warm"

If the proposition "P" is true I'll write "P"
Write the negative : ¬ ("not")

P is True (your coin is heads up)
Add not and the truth value is flipped "¬P" is false (your coin is tails up)
Add another not, "¬¬P" and we have the truth value of "¬P" flipped. "¬P" is false, so "¬¬P" is true, we have flipped the coin back.

"¬¬" or "not not" or "double negative" gets you back where you started. "Ice is not not cold" is the same as "Ice is cold", so unless your doing formal logic its best just to leave "not not" out!

A double negative is a counteractive choice of words to a subject.

"you will not not do that"= means you will do that
