Be gracious and watch you present. You will get worse presents in the long run by being ungrateful, and it sounds like it is already a done deal. It's hard to buy presents for people, and we don't always get what we want.

It sounds like you and your Dad are having a problem with communication. Tell him that you didn't realize that the movie was your birthday present, and gently tell him that you were hoping on getting fill-in-the-blank instead, because you've really been eyeing that all year. Tell him (gently) that you don't actually want to own the movie. Then suggest that you return the movie and rent it (for you to watch together) from Blockbuster or someplace like that. You could make popcorn and have time just for the two of you. If your Dad cares about your feelings, and you present it in a non-confrontational way, everything should work alright.

You're not really being selfish but maybe your Dad misunderstood what you wanted for your birthday. Don't get angry just tell your Dad you didn't mean for this movie to be your birthday present and could you get the present you originally wanted. But remember as parents we're not mind readers and it is a present so actually he can get you what he wants to give you. Be honest and give your Dad the benefit of the doubt. Happy Birthday.

You are complaining about a gift you haven't received and your birthday isn't here yet? Don't you think you should at least wait til your birthday passes and see what happens? So to answer your question, yes you are being selfish! A gift is a gift, even if it isn't what you wanted! Be grateful, some kids don't get gifts at all!

I wouldn't say your being selfish, I've been there. Just be like ohh man dad, I wanted the movie, but not that much. There are things I woukd much rather have for my birthday that are special, I can buy this money anytime I want. Just be gentle, thats what matters. Happy early birthday.

Ask your dad if he forgot about the gift you wanted. If he says no, then ask him why he did not get it for your birthday. Maybe he forgot or maybe he has a good reason not to get it for you right now.

In normal conversation bring up what you originally wanted for you birthday and how excited you would be if you got that, even if it meant not getting the movie. If he doesnt get the point, well there is always Christmas.

Selfish? Maby but its very hard to find a gift for your daughter that you know she wants. So if you give us a hint and we go for it,just be glad he is trying to do for you. Remember we dont have a book on what gifts to get on your b/day.

if u asked your dad to buy the movie, and it was your idea to buy it, than that was your b day gift. shouldn't have ask for the movie if u wanted something else.
