They keep really really really fast bikes rear tire (the one that makes you go) on the ground, by moving the wheel farther back, you apply more leverage, helping to keep that contact patch on the ground... It is like a wheelie bar on a dragster...

It will make it handle like a tank. Extended swingarms are primarily for looks and drags (in order to keep the bike from standing up so much). I would NOT get an extended swingarm.

It is to help keep the front tire from raising up real high when taking off and changing gears. and it is also for looks nowadays. But if you are going to ride in the mountains and around turns you have no need to extend a rear end. Because it doesnt have as much lean anymore. Rear end extentions are for straight-liners.

Hillclimbs.
The Suzuki GS425 was a popular bike for this. At least that's what the riders were telling me when they wanted to buy mine. Explains why I didn't find many recycled parts.

they extend the swing arm on hill climbing bikes so they won't loop out while going up a steep hill.
