Trading Spouse's TV Show, the Money Question?

For those of you who watch this show, don't you wonder about the money? The wives decide how the 50K is spent that is given to each family. My question is, how does the show know for sure that the families actually spend the money as was designated by the wife? How do they know for sure if the people decide to spend the money on other things? What is the consequence if they do?

i think it is a stipulation and they sign an agreement before they start filming. i also think it might be something along the line of they have to pay back the 50k if they dont spend it how it was allocated.
