1. They respect the person they are marrying.
2. They respect themselves.
3. They take responsibility for their feelings and actions, don't hold someone else responsible.
4. They understand that they are not perfect, and do not expect others to be perfect. They are willing to apologize when they screw up and to forgive when others screw up.
5. They are compassionate and can understand how others feel.
6. They have a good sense of humor and understand that it is not nice to make fun of other people or laugh at them. With them, yes. At them, no.
7. They will tell you clearly what they want and need, they don't play games making you guess or make a test of you figuring it out.
8. They do not tolerate others being mean or rude to their spouse or children, and they do not allow themselves, their spouse, or their children be mean or rude to others.
9. They are willing to ask for help if there is a problem, and that includes going to a counselor or therapist if things in their relationship with their spouse or children get strained.
10. They are quick to say please, thank you, and to praise their spouse and children. Not just for exceptional things, but for little things like getting the dishes done without asking or other tasks that are normal. And not just meaningless words of thanks either, but the genuine, heartfelt thanks and praise that matter.

Truth in advertising is very important in developing a relationship.
Do we respect each other?
Do we each see qualities to admire in the other person?
Are we physically attracted to each other?
Have we developed emotional intimacy?
Do we have affection for each other?
Are our goals in life compatible?
Does he seem to be a good person, with personal qualities and values that are important to me?
Do most of the people who care about me and whose judgment I trust share my belief that he is a good person?
