The distance between the two ships when the second ship starts is 15 km, and the catching speed is (25-15) = 10 km/h.

time = distance/speed

15/10 = 1.5 hours

set up two equations
ship 1 >> D=15T
ship 2 >> D=25(T-1)
D=Distance
T=Time
set the equations equal to each other
15T=25(T-1) >> Simplify
15T=25T-25 >> get like terms on one side
-10T=-25 >> divide both sides by -10
T=25/10=2.5 Hours from the time ship 1 leaves or 1.5 Hours from the time ship 2 leaves

speed = distance/time
hence distance=speed*time

distance 1= distance 2 so 15*time1=25*time 2 and you know time1=time 2+1hour
so 15*(time2+1)=25*time2 => time 2=15/10=1.5h

It will take the second ship 1.5h
