i broke up with my ex of 5yrs because he cheated on me. It's been 8 months, but he's still calling me. I'm in IL, and he's in NJ. can i get a court order? I've telling my ex and his family to stop calling me.

You wont get a restraining order for that . There has to be stalking or violence to get one-just calling you wont work. Change your telephone number to a non listed private number.

You might be able to depending on the harassment laws of the two states. An attorney would be able to advise you. Enforcement is a different issue, though it might stop him if he knew there were financial consequences. Still, the easiest and cheapest route would be to change your phone number or possibly put a call block on all numbers he calls you from.

Yes you can ask a judge ot isssue (or hire a lawyer) a court order prohibiing him o rhis family form contacting you. Unless you share children in case you would have ot work out something on vistation.

He still could contact you even with a court order but that could get him in jail.

Yes, get a restraining order. Depending on your county laws, it can apply to actually coming within 500 ft. or calling you too. If you think it is harrassment you can easily file a complaint to get the order at your nearest courthouse. They also have the papers online in certain areas. But remember, if you get the order you have to stick to it. If you get back together the court will see it as null and void. Good luck!
