I am a mom who will be taking the summer off to take care of my brother's kids (4 and 6) this summer. My kids are 14 and 10. I am unsure of activities (besides all the amusement parks) that are available and fun for all of them in Los Angeles. I would love some ideas.
Thanks

The Observatory is in Griffith Park, not Griffin Park, by the way.

There are a ton of free concerts in the summer; check out the info on-line. My favorites are downtown at the California Plaza, but the Santa Monica Pier has some as well on Thursday nights.

Check out the kcet (local public television station) Calendar of Kids and Family events:

You can definitely explore the world's cuisines in L.A. - maybe you can make it an adventure and try a cuisine from a different country each week...you will run out of time before you run out of adventures!!! Besides the already-popular Mexican, Thai, Japanese, etc., I've had Ethiopian, Phillippino, Indian, Cambodian...there's even an Afghani restaurant in Pasadena.
Just do a google search.

i'm not sure what part of la you're going to be. but there are museums (art, history), griffin park observatory, Santa Monica farmers market @ the promenade walkboard @ the pier. venice beach is always interesting. china town (mostly vietnamese now) little tokyo. west hollywood is alway interesting, there rodeo drive and brentwood. if you just want see how the rich lives. take a coastal drive. or take your kids for surfing lesson. hmmm there are lots more if you give me a minute.

There are lots of hiking trails and nature centers in the local mountains just north of Los Angeles. You can also take in all the beautiful beaches.
