What did you think of the movie Cabaret?

Absolutely magnificent.

Liza and Joel were never better and the sub-story was terrifying, as we watch the rise of Nazism.

Loved it!

The cinematography was great. They showed the vibrant colors (especially when Sally is singing "Maybe this time" and the light is behind her, showing her hands reaching out, a metaphor for the help she requests and the love she needs), and the stage shots were great.

The music is second to none. Willkommen meshes languages to the point that you want to listen because it's fun to hear. Mein Herr shows that a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. Two Ladies... the perfect song for two lives and two loves. Tomorrow Belongs to Me... personification of the egotistical Nazi party trying to hold down everyone who wasn't like them. Maybe this Time, a pleading song, a love song, a hope song all tied up in one. Money... again, a cute upbeat happy song. And cabaret, a great closer. I love how the music in the Kit Cat parallels the story line, especially two ladies with Max, Sally and the teacher.

The screenplay was genious. My favorite line...
"Screw Max Amillion"
"I do"
"... so do I".
Great lines like this come around once in a while! You just laugh and cry at all struggles and tribulations of the characters.

The costumes were excellent! Sally's are what I'm going to focus on. From stage to street she looks shimmering. Of course, the most important costume was "the fur coat" she sold for an abortion.

Sets were great... the dazzelig stage and the messy apartment give us a sence of melonging and knowing the characters.

Direction was great, of course. You have to have great direction for a great movie like that.
