No, that just gives you more hard drive space.
To get more RAM you will have to buy more. One way that you can reduce the amount of RAM being used is by closing any programs that you have running that you dont need. When a program is RUNNING, thats when it uses RAm not if it is just installed but not running.
Also when you are closing programs for more RAM, look in the bottom-right corner , in the system tray to see if any of those icons are programs that you dont need running at the moment.

No. It will reduce the system resources that use RAM, but you don't have to uninstall a program to do that - just don't run it if there are memory issues. Some things you can uninstall that use RAM all the time are what're called TSR's - Terminate and Stay Resident programs. Like Yahoo messenger, Yahoo pager, Reminder programs, anti-spy stuff that you probably don't need, pop-up blockers, the list is endless. If you press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, you can see what processes are running. You can take each process, type the name of it in your search bar, and the Internet will tell you if it's a crucial process or not. If not, think about ending the process from your task manager control window to free up some RAM.
Buying more RAM is never a bad idea.

Hey Dude,
Probably. It is not the hard drive space that most people have to worry about, it is the TSR's (Terminate and Stay Resident)
When you install applications, many times they actually start up, stay resident in memory, and are waiting there for you, for when you need them. Quicktime, Yahoo stuff, MSN, some drivers, etc, are all sitting there in your task bar, or even burried WAY back, just waiting at your becken call for when they are needed.
The drawback is that they do take up RAM space doing nothing. So, if you uninstall an app that has a TSR as a part of it, you will free up RAM. Otherwise, you can just shut off the TSR by going to task manager and turning off the process, freeing up the ram, until the next time you reboot.
Hope this helps.

lol no. RAM stands for random access memory. Its like short term memory, you comp is always thinking and putting stuff in their when you run programs. Having programs on your comp does not take up RAM, it takes up hard drive space. If your comp is running slow when you run multiple programs, you need more RAM to fix that, so yes another RAM card would help. Deleting programs won't. Not running anything will, but then whats the point of a comp if it does not compute?

Not necessarily.
Programs use memory only when they are loaded (when you open them). Also, there are some programs that load automatically with Windows. So, it depends on the program.
As a very general rule uninstalling a program will not free RAM, it will mostly free disk space.
I recommend you to add more RAM.
About your final question, don´t count on that. Computers evolve frequently, so hardware parts between two computers generationally separated can be incompatible; this is especially true with RAM modules.

Uninstalling alone probably won't make a big impact. Wiping the system and starting from scratch will help but not as much as buying more ram will.

Ha! No!!! OPENING programs requires RAM. Add another RAM chip (cheap and easy on most computers - I added 256 to my Dell for $25.00)..

it will give you more HD space. RAM is Random Access Memory. Only closing out of currently running programs will give you more RAM. If you use Windows XP, you should have at least 384mb of it (512 preferably).

its gives you more hard rive space which is usually anywhere from 20 gb to 250 gb..that permanent memory..ram is random access memory so it accesses at random..to make it do things faster and muti-task more at once get another ram card..i run 1 gb of ram which is slightly above average of the 512 mb ram..
