Hi, Im in the UK. Im talking mainstream commercial here/
For the youngsters (up to about 30s) Id say that Hip-Hop / Urban / RnB is most popular at the moment. Although this is starting to get a bit dry now same old tunes...
Just check out record stores and download sites for their charts, you'll see a trend there and that will give you a start;

I live In the US. I think here, it's a toss-up between Salsa and Hip-Hop.
In the UK I would expect it to be Techno (more of a European thing.)
