if you look back at Disney's history they have ALWAYS made very violent cartoons and made money on the all family's are dysfunctional theory... one of the worst was Snow White also Cinderella, there was a heap o' child abuse going on in those toons, poison apples for Snow and locking Cindy up forcing her to do menial labor, Disney has always produced their cartoons with the lie that a parent's fantasy is to be rid of their child, how many characters does Disney have that are orphans JUST ABANDONED!!! now it has come full circle and is playing on the kID's fantasy of getting rid of the parents.. Disney 's cartoon history would be a great paper for an abnormal psych class

I know what you mean. It's so sad! Aladdin is an orphan, The Little Mermaid and Belle from Beauty and the Beast have no mother, Pocahonas as no mother, Simba has no father! But I believe as someone mentioned earlier, both Mulan's parents AND her grandmother are alive through out the entire movie.

*Mary Poppins. Those kids have both their parents, a couple of maids, the constable, and Mary and Bert.
*Alice in Wonderland. It never shows her parents die.
*Mulan has both of her parents plus her grandmother.
*Sleeping Beauty's parents are alive.
*In Peter Pan the three children still have parents.

You're right. Out of all the Disney movies ever made those are the only five I can think of. I don't know why that is.

Parent Trapp---parents were only divorced
Dumbo---mom was alive, dad was a member of Barnum's
Beauty and the Beast----dad was alive
Most of the Disney's are based on books or stories where the writer's themselves killed of the parent(s).
