emo means emotional. Its all of the lame music and culture where people feel depressed and scream about how sad they are and how they are going to mutilate their genitals and stuff....very weird.

EMO got different meaning and used at different places for different things, mostly Emo is a sub genre of hardcore punk music. In its original incarnation, the term emo was used to describe the music of the mid-1980s Washington, DC scene and its associated bands. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the DC scene and some of the regional scenes that spawned from it. The term emo was derived from the fact that, on occasion, members of a band would become spontaneously and strongly emotional during performances. The most recognizable names of the period included Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and, slightly later, Moss Icon. The first wave of emo began to fade after the breakups of most of the involved bands in the early 1990s.

It means EMOTIONAL mainly meaning that you like emotional music like taking back sunday for example and most "emo's" wear tight pants and have short croppy haircuts and such

Emo stands for Emotional Hardcore music. It's a subgenre of punk. Don't believe what the others will say, they are uneducated most ''likely. I am only saying that for your own good.

Emo is short for emotional. i.e. those teenage kids that grow up as a white middle class male in suburbia...and cry because their lives are so bad.

And they wear eye liner...loads of eyeliner.

But the word is tentative..for example, dashboard confessional is seen as an Emo band because most of their songs are about girls leaving them..or pain... but really they just have good music

Haha, from one old girl to another! (also 26)

"Emo" is short for "emotional" first of all. It was a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock but it has kinda morphed into a whole lifestyle.
