Well, some colleges have pre-vet or some kind of animal sciences degrees. Try to get something with a lot of biology and a ton of animal-centered classes. I go to Clemson University and we have classes with horses, cows, chickens, pigs, you name it. Vet school is harder to get into than Med school so the competition around here is pretty insane. You should really look at colleges that have a high percentage of people applying to vet school getting in. Most colleges would have these kinds of degrees under Life Sciences.

Also, I really wouldn't recommend a major that has nothing to do with vet school. Competition for the slots is just too intense. You need a school with a good track record of getting students in. Also, plan to have as close to a 4.0 as humanly possible. My friend was pre-vet with a 3.2 and got turned down everywhere. Another girl I knew had a 3.4 and ended up having to go to the Bahamas to go to vet school because no where in the states would take her.

I would recommend a Bachelor of science with a major in biology. I know some schools offer more specific programs such as a bachelors of science with a major in animal science. I had a friend that took a pre-vet program before she applied to veterinary school.

I am not sure what is available in your immediate area but here is a link to the Agriculture College near my home. Where the programs I mentioned are available.

The answer really depends upon whom you ask. Some believe that is is better to have a degree that is heaver in the sciences(BS) Others believe that you should concentrate upon a degree that would help you interact with customers. (Business, Acct. Psyc, etc) But in reality as long as you have the prerequisites done, study what you want if for no other reason than having a plan "B".

The one that gets you the best grades. There isn't really a "best" major in general. Science classes are most popular b/c you need a good science background and it's easier to get into those required science classes when you have a science major.

My cousin is in presently in tuition now to get a veterinary nurse's license that's an Associates. I consider it takes two years to get that, and six years to get a veterinarian's license. I'm guessing that form of license is a bachelor's or grasp's measure.

.. Biology
.. Chemistry
.. Physiology
.. Comparative anatomy

These courses should at least be included. Some places have a pre-vet program which you might want to check out.

I'd imagine that a degree in biology would be particularily useful!
