Paul Weller is good in his own right! It does not make anyone any better by having a CBE or any title for a matter of fact! I think Paul is a good man we can be proud of him. xx

A CBE and the like are 'awarded' as recognition for achievement etc in different walks of life. He knows what he has contributed as do his many followers, it doesnt make him a better person, and he is so down to earth that he would probably find it embarrassing to have letters after his name and obviouly feels more comfortable without it

I don't know his reason for not accepting it. Maybe there is a clue in his great Eton Rifles song. Maybe he just doesn't like the upper class establishment and doesn't want to accept it's patronage by joining the "British Empire" club. I'd like to see some new style awards he might feel more comfortable about receiving.

He's politically opposed to the honours system so there was no way he could accept it without looking a hypocrite

he has the freedom of choice & for some reason has chosen not to accept it so i think we need to admire him for doing what he beleives is right.
